Keywords & clusters

Search all guides

What this is: A guide to where your keywords and topic clusters live, how to bring them in, and how they quietly power your coverage, opportunities, and content plan.

Keywords are the individual search terms you want to rank for. Clusters group related keywords into topics. Together they feed almost everything the platform recommends.

Where clusters live

Clusters live at Settings → Clusters, a grid of cluster cards. Each card shows:

Clusters group related keywords into topics so the platform can reason about whole subjects, not just single terms.

Where keywords live

Keywords live at Settings → Keywords, a searchable, filterable list. You can filter by intent, source, cluster, and VIP.

Each keyword carries:

Update a keyword

Tip: A VIP keyword is a starred priority term. It's tracked more closely and seeds the VIP bucket in Opportunities.

Import keywords from a CSV

  1. Click Import CSV.
  2. Upload a file (up to about 1,000 rows).
  3. Columns auto-map: keyword is required; optional columns are searchVolume, difficulty, intent, funnelStage, currentPosition, source, and cluster.
  4. Preview the mapping.
  5. Click Import.
Gotcha: Only certain values are accepted. Valid intent values are informational, navigational, commercial, and transactional. Valid funnel stages are awareness, consideration, and decision.

Research keywords in chat

You don't need a spreadsheet to grow your list. Ask the SEO specialist in chat, for example, "Research keywords for 'invoice automation'". It returns suggestions with volume, difficulty, and intent that you can add to your list. Added this way, they show source = AI research.

Why they matter and how they connect

Prerequisite: For the richest signals (current position and Search Console metrics), connect Google Search Console.
